There once lived a little girl named Susie. Susie was born into a family of wealth. Her mother was the heir to her grandmother’s billion dollar hotel industry. Susie’s father was the son to King Phillip III of England, who was about to be crowned king because his father was deathly ill. Both parents were under a lot of stress because often times they argued and fought. One night, Susie’s father couldn’t deal with the fighting and left. He went to take care of his father who died two days after their split. To make matters worse, Susie frequently listened in on their arguments. Sometimes she would watch them fight. Because Susie was only five years old, she never understood what their arguments were about, so she would cry whenever she saw her dad hit her mother. However, her parents never saw or heard their daughter. The day that her father left changed her life forever.
Ten years later, Susie had grown into a beautiful young lady. She had just celebrated her 15th birthday and was excited to be going back to school to see her friends. Susie and her mother became very close, but there was still something missing in Susie’s heart. The beginning of the school year was going great. Susie was popular, had good grades, a cute boyfriend, and was involved in her school immensely. Her mother never talked about her father after their split but she soon would be forced to.
One day Susie came home crying but no one was home except for the maid. Susie wanted to talk to someone about her situation, but her friends were all out of town. Susie came home crying because people from school knew that she grew up without both parents present in the house. However, the majority of the kid’s parents both lived in the same home. Children teased her and asked her where her dad was. She told them that he was the King of England and that he was too busy to take care of her. That made the situation worse because no one believed her. Susie ran to her room and plopped on her bed. Something fell from her dresser. Not knowing what had dropped, Susie bent over to pick the paper up. On the paper it had the number to her father’s home. It had been 10 years since Susie last saw or heard from her father. Susie was feeling vulnerable so she decided to call her father. Hoping that he would pick up, Susie reached his voicemail.
Her father who was at home, was about to commit suicide. He felt such guilt and heartache for leaving his family. He also didn’t believe that he was a good leader because he had been such a bad parent. It was until he heard his daughter’s voice that he quickly ran from the balcony to receive her phone call, but it was too late. All he could hear is his daughter crying and she told him that even though it had been a while since they last talked, she needed him.
The message that Susie left tugged at her father’s heart, and he fell to his knees crying. He too had emptiness in his heart and never knew who or what could fill it until now. It was the love of his daughter that he so desperately needed. Susie had always been the apple of his eye. Even after he left, he had always loved Susie and often times wondered how she was doing. He had never called her because he was too afraid of her mother picking up and causing more drama between them. Her father hated arguing but it was the only way things were accomplished. After hearing Susie’s message, he was determined to find her and start over. He wasn’t going to let his insecurities stop him from the one person who always found a way to brighten up his day.
Susie on the other hand, felt rejected and unwanted. She desperately wanted to her father to pick up because something was telling her that he would be the answer to a lot of questions she had. Five minutes later her mother came home and heard Susie crying from her room. Her mother ran to her room to see what was going on. Susie told her what had happened at school and her mother was furious. Susie told her that it would be okay, but she just really needed to speak with her father. Her mother, shocked that she wanted him and not her, explained to Susie that her father was a very busy man and would be hard to reach. Susie was not taking no for an answer; she wanted her father right then and there. Her mother told her that she hated talking about him because he had hurt her so much that she rather dismiss him from her life. Susie wanted her mother to try and overcome her fears and hurt and really work on forgiving her father.
The next day Susie and her mother talked about everything concerning the father, and they both felt relieved to get their issues off of their chest. That evening the doorbell rang. Wondering who it could be, Susie ran to answer it. When she opened the door she had no idea who it was; she quickly closed it and ran to get her mother. Her mother looked out the window and opened the door. It was none other than her husband standing there. His face was sad and his eyes were filled with questions. Susie’s mother told her that it was her dad, and Susie ran to greet him. When her father saw Susie he feel to his knees; tears fell from his eyes, and he extended his arms to Susie. Susie ran to her father and hugged him tightly. She never wanted to let him go. As they hugged, the mother was in pure shock and was speechless. Her mother signaled both of them to come in and sit down to talk things over. For the next five hours, Susie, her father, and mother all cried and forgave one another. The father wanted to be a good husband and parent again. The next day Susie brought her father to school and they kids couldn’t believe their eyes. They all apologized to Susie. For the next five years, Susie and her father spent more time with each other and grew closer. Susie’s heart was no longer an empty home.
